Nick specialises in documenting the adverse impacts of development on local communities and the environment.

He has worked for a number of international humanitarian organizations such as UNICEF, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. His journalistic  work has been published in various local and international publications, including The International New York Times and Time Magazine.

Nick has been based in Southeast Asia since 2008 and is a founding member of Ruom. He is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. He is fluent in English and French.

Thomas is passionate about documenting climate change and the effects of development in the Mekong region.

Thomas’s photography and video work have been featured in campaigns for international NGOs and INGOs, such as WWF, UNDP, USAID, and UNICEF. His photographs have also been featured in international magazines and newspapers such as The New York Times, Al Jazeera and The Guardian.

He has been working in Southeast Asia for the last four years and is currently based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He’s fluent in English, Italian and Spanish.

Denise is an award-winning journalist based in Southeast Asia since 2010, where she mainly reports on Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar. She focuses on long-form journalism and writes features with strong character development. She’s passionate about cultural, social and environmental issues. Recently, her work was honoured with the AEJA’s Young Environmental Journalist of the Year award. Before joining Ruom, she worked as a writer and editor for the Cambodia Daily. Denise is fluent in German and English.

Antoine specialises in documentary portrait photography. He has documented a wide range of subjects including Cambodian boxers, climate change activists, Khmer Rouge survivors, and people from the Cambodian fashion scene. He has been an independent photographer for 13 years, and has freelanced for a number of international humanitarian organisations including UNICEF, SNV Netherlands, and the French Development Agency (AFD). His work has been published in a number of publications, such as Financial Times Magazine and Le Monde. He is fluent in French and English.

Clothilde is an analyst on online media development, freedom of the press and the role of media in developing countries. Her background includes several years working in Paris and in Washington DC, where she headed an international NGO for three years.

Luc Forsyth is a Canadian freelance photojournalist and writer whose work has taken him to over 40 countries across five continents. His work focuses on social and humanitarian issues, and his written and photographic projects have been featured internationally for media outlets such as The New York Times, Time Magazine and Al Jazeera.

MICHAEL MALAY

WRITER

Michael Malay completed a PhD at the University of Bristol, where he specialised in modern American and British poetry. He is currently writing about migrant workers in ASEAN countries, and has written about the topic for The Guardian, Al Jazeera, New Internationalist and The Diplomat.

ALEXANDER MARCHAND

Alexandre Marchand is a freelance French journalist. He has lived in India and Southeast Asia.

He works with both French and English-speaking media outlets.

AURORA ALMENDRAL

Aurora is a writer and radio producer from New York, who has lived in Morocco, Spain and Syria, and is currently based in Manila, Philippines. She has covered disasters, poverty, economic growth and global health, as well as crime, culture and technology. Her work has been aired or published by NPR News, BBC News and BBC World Service, PRI’s The World, NPR’s Snap Judgment, Monocle, Esquire Philippines, VICE News and others. She is currently a writer for Facebook’s Free Basics.

ABBY SEIFF

Abby Seiff is a journalist who has been based in Southeast Asia since 2009. Her work has appeared in a range of mainstream and academic publications including the Associated Press, Al Jazeera, TIME, the Economist, the Lancet, Center for Strategic & International Studies, Centre Tricontinental, and more. Her work focuses on human rights, politics, and the law. Prior to becoming a freelancer, she served as an editor for several years at The Cambodia Daily and the Phnom Penh Post, where her coverage of a Global Fund probe won honorable mention for investigative reporting at the 2013 SOPA awards.

HANNAH REYES

PHOTOGRAPHER

Hannah’s work focuses on individuals mired in complex situations created by inequality, poverty, and impunity. This includes photographing human trafficking at sea for The New York Times, reporting on war crimes against Cambodian women for Al Jazeera America, and documenting changing indigenous cultures in the Philippines for a grant from National Geographic. Her work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, and Time (online) among others. She is represented by National Geographic Creative.

MARTA KASZTELAN

JOURNALIST – VIDEO PRODUCER

Marta’s work focuses on women, gender and on the positive and negative impacts of corporations on those around them.
She has worked as a videographer for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Cambodia and for SNV Netherlands. Her journalistic work has been published in various regional and international publications, including the Guardian and Al Jazeera.
Marta has been based in Southeast Asia since 2013 and is currently based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She is fluent in English and Polish, with very strong German and French.
